Me & My Life
Avoiding Platypodes
Posted November 11th, 2008 by Some Random NerdThere's a great story about the discovery of the platypus; when the first sketches and pelts were sent back to Europe from Australia, scientists were baffled; all previously discovered animals had been successfully classified into a neat system, and a semi-aquatic creature that laid eggs, suckled it's young, had a venomous spur seemed impossible to their way of thinking; the logical conclusion wasn't that there was a problem with their way of thinking, but that the creature was an elaborate hoax, and that a duck's bill must have been stitched onto the body of a beaver-like animal.
Please tell me what I want for Christmas, Steve!
Posted October 13th, 2008 by Some Random NerdThere's an "Apple event" happening tomorrow; an invitation sent out to selected journalists that apparently indicates that new Apple notebooks are on their way, and Steve Jobs will unveil something wonderful, new and portable;

Since Apple now seems to be as much of a religion as a hardware manufacturer (maybe that's where they were really heading when they dropped the "Computers" from their name and became "Apple Inc."?), the blogosphere is naturally alight with rumours and speculation about what they are about to unveil. But worryingly, since moving my MP3 playing from my Microsoft phones to an iPod Mini, then an iPod Touch, and having now come full circle to an iPhone, I've started slipping down the dark path towards Apple fandom myself. Yes, I know that the hardware is expensive compared to a technically equivalent PC. And I understand the principles of Free vs Closed software, and that Apple is about as "closed" as they come.
But they're so nice and… Shiny…
Anyway, seeing as I'm clearly on my way to becoming an out-and-out Apple fanboy, I thought I'd post my own guesses/wish list on what's on it's way.
2 Years On
Posted September 2nd, 2008 by Some Random NerdYesterday marked the second anniversary of my (our) wedding, and over the last couple of days we've been back in the town we were married in, had lunch at Barnabrow House (where we had our reception) and watched the video of the day.
